CAREER
DEVELOPMENT PATHWAYS EXPLORATION PROGRAM
Howard
A. Doolin Middle School has created a vocational program for students in
order to prepare them to meet the employment challenges of the 21st century.
The Career Pathways Program is based on the School-To-Work philosophy that
provides students various school-based, work-based, and connecting activities to
prepare them for the workplace. Students at Howard Doolin Middle School
have the opportunity to explore different career choices, participate in career
fairs, communicate and learn from various business leaders in the community and
the opportunity to participate in career shadowing experiences. Students
are scheduled in a manner that allows them to partake in each of the career
exploration wheels. The career clusters are academic integration classes that
provide students with an opportunity to apply academic concepts to their career
exploration. Students rotate through a different career cluster each
semester. These career cluster classes include: Communication and TV
Production, Agri-science, and Family & Consumer Sciences.
The
Career Pathways Program has been a huge success and continues to grow.
Presently, we have attempted to create as many career clusters that will
correlate with career clusters at Ferguson High School. Therefore, our
students will have the opportunity to continue taking courses in their chosen
career areas.
